a positive path for spiritual living

Self Valuation

Rosace nord de la cathédrale de Chartres

by Kay Fuller

[NOTE: The following talk was given by Kay Fuller in December, 2014 as part of her participation as a student of All Faiths Seminary, NYC]

A Course in Miracles (ACIM M-61:1) says, “Wherever we may find ourselves is exactly where we should be, for we are there to bring salvation to the world through our forgiveness of the situation, or our willingness to let the Holy Spirit’s perception be ours.  The healing in thought may not bring change as quickly as we think it should happen, but “healing is always certain.”

When I reach a “road bump”, the first thing I need to do is recognize that the situation has the potential to transform me in a positive way.  When I do this, I release some of the fear that I have attached to the situation.  Next, I must remember to make the decision to remain in my power; in my truth.

When I was planning what I wanted to say today, I thought about doing the talk I had prepared for November [it had had to be rescheduled to December] because I was pleased with it, but there was the opportunity to go ahead and talk about the “giving” season, and then the inner voice said “Stay in the present moment.”

Ever so softly, winter brings stillness to the Earth, a time for quiet, to go inside and rest, rebuild.  So during this season, let us observe the rebirth of peace and trust within our hearts.

A couple of years ago my Husband and I were visiting Mt. Olympic National Park  In Washington State. There is an incredibly beautiful place called Hurricane Ridge.  It was warm and I was wearing a short sleeve tee walking up a path looking at mounds of snow, patches of grass, and wildflowers.  When I got to the top I had a 360 degree panoramic view including the San Juan Islands with the sun glistening on the water and snow tipped mountains surrounding me.  I was feeling so close to God that I closed my eyes and asked for a message—what do I do next?  I heard, “Your salvation is your Self valuation”.

The dictionary says that SALVATION according to Christianity is the act of saving someone from sin or evil. The next definition says “Something that saves someone or something from danger or a difficult situation.  ACIM says, “Salvation of the world depends on you who can forgive.  Such is your function here.”

Concerning the little self and the higher Self, the little self says, “I want others to notice what I have read and achieved.  Let’s go shopping or to a movie—that will be exciting.” The higher Self has no limitations and does not act on a basis of approval seeking.  Holy Spirit always sees a “win-win” solution to all problems.  To experience VALUATION, place your hand on your heart and close your eyes to go into the silent space.  We emerge with more light for the coming year.  Energetically, what does it feel like to experience you as Love?  Can you feel that you are an extension of God’s Light?  Can you imagine God’s love for you?  What does it feel like to have no limitations?  Your experience as a vehicle of the Creator in action begins to transform how you understand yourself.  Being the presence of Love, you may feel warmth through your entire body.  Sometimes when we are in that space and talking to a friend we will “tear up”.  It may be uncomfortable, but that is the frequency of Love that you attune to when you say, “I am the presence of Love”.

Let us acknowledge the wholeness and innocence that is inside of us.  Let us acknowledge the magnificence of ourselves.  When we do, we cannot possibly conceive of anything different in another.  The deeper we love ourselves, the more the Universe will affirm our worth.  And so it is…

Chapter 19, Koran: “All of us are an individual expression of God’s love.”

As we begin a new year, we may wish we had done or handled some situations differently in the past.  If we are stuck in anger, guilt, or resentment over the past, maybe it’s time for us to allow it to be transformed. With every miracle of healing, we become more open to the presence of love.

An example of this: My ego is fascinated with Muslim women wearing head scarfs.  Seemi, the beautiful Imam that visited us [at Kay’s All Faiths Seminary class] in November, was wearing a head scarf because she said that she didn’t want to distract men, but I (my ego self) noticed that she wore three or four times the makeup of any other woman in the room.  It seemed that the makeup cancelled her effort of wearing a scarf–like she was picking and choosing what worked for her instead of being pure in her dogma. Then it hit me: WE ALL DO THAT.   I realized that I had judged her and I was doing the same thing. That is how we move toward MYSTICISM, listening to the heart and following its directions, and that is a good thing!

Whenever I visit New York City I always see scaffolding up against the face of a building somewhere with workmen on the face of the building currently under renovation.  I think of the building as us.  We are under renovation and the workmen are working on us.  When we refer to pain, they don’t just do cosmetic work.  They go in and pull the “stuff” out that is creating the many problems for us.  We cannot go on this journey and not have to deal with our pain in a very succinct way.  With each “Aha” life gets more joyful.

Persian poet Hafez:I wish I could show you when you are lonely or in the darkness, the astonishing light of your own being.”

Live the life your Soul is guiding you toward.

Your salvation is your Self valuation.
