HOPCOF FOLLOWUP
Every ministry’s transition will be a little different. (Perhaps none more different than ours as we navigate this very challenging pandemic event at the same time!) Here is a basic outline of the process.
Typical Transition Activities
6-12 months – Rev. Steve Colladay, Transitional Specialist
WHAT: Fulfilling Senior Minister Role – Full time
WHO: Steve, Board, staff, key leaders
PURPOSE: Continuity with Sunday Service, planning with Board and staff, key leaders; get acquainted with community, etc.
TIME REQUIRED: As necessary
WHAT: Create a Transition Team
WHO: Steve, Board, staff, key leaders
PURPOSE: To provide a seamless and unified transition in this interval prior to arrival of the new minister
TIME REQUIRED: Several meetings as necessary; weekly initially, then monthly.
WHAT: Honoring Our Past, Creating Our Future (HOPCOF)
WHO: Steve and Transition Team for planning; Steve and another UWM consultant co-facilitates the Saturday congregational session
PURPOSE: Integration of honoring and healing the past with future possibilities; deepening an experience of authentic community
TIME REQUIRED: Usually held on a Saturday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, we anticipate that, during the pandemic, we will hold two Zoom sessions from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm on a Friday and Saturday of the same weekend.
Everyone whoever has attended Unity of Albany is invited. (An optional Healing Circle may be held at the end of the session or following week.)
WHAT: Board & Key Leaders Training
WHO: Steve facilitates session for Board of Trustees and key staff, leaders
PURPOSE: Team building; key elements of leadership; Reviewing UWM Leadership Manual.
TIME REQUIRED: Saturday 9:00 am to 4:00 pm OR 2 to 3 sessions of 2 hrs. each.
WHAT: Vision, Mission, Core Values
WHO: Steve plans and facilitates Saturday session for congregation
PURPOSE: A community-centric and mission-focused experiential model for reviewing/updating Vision, Mission, Core values. Also, reviewing/creating Plan of Action for Unity of Albany.
TIME REQUIRED: Saturday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. (Depending upon how the pandemic plays out, this may be held on Zoom from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm on a Friday and Saturday) Everyone whoever has attended Unity of Albany is invited.
Begin planning & implementing:
Supporting Youth & Family, music, admin
The I of the Storm class
Review and update Bylaws
Create / Support Prayer Chaplain Program
Adult Unity Classes: review and teach!
Agreeing & Disagreeing in Love policy
Create Performance Review System for the minister, board, staff, congregation.
Review Membership requirements
Create Marketing Team: to explore branding/identity,
Review our relationship with Unity movement: Unity Worldwide Ministries, Unity World Headquarters, Unity Eastern Region
Live streaming, upgrading website, Facebook, multimedia.
Prepare and implement our Minister Search process. (Note: takes 4-7 months before minister is hired and appears!)
