a positive path for spiritual living

Family Promise Training

Learn how you can support our efforts to support homeless families!

Family Promise of the Capital Region is a local organization working to engage the community in support of families facing homelessness, providing temporary shelter, wraparound services and the guidance they need to build a brighter future. Unity of Albany is now partnering with Family Promise, and will be offering our facilities to house homeless families four times a year for a period of one week.

Family Promise works with several faith communities that host our guest families by converting underutilized space into private, home-like, overnight accommodations for up to three families at a time, on a rotational basis (1 week at a time, 4 times per year). Each evening, congregants — who are trained volunteers — provide the guest families home-cooked meals, homework help, recreational activities, and a sense of community. Support congregations provide additional volunteers.

Family Promise’s Executive Director, Mary Giordano will be with us on July 20 to begin to train our volunteers. Come find out more about this wonderful opportunity to be of service to our brothers and sisters!
