On March 11, Peggy Kaufmann went with a delegation of 8 people from Capital District Border Watch to the Mexican border, in Brownsville, Texas. The purpose of the delegation was to witness the conditions that the asylum seekers on the Mexican side of the border are living in as well as the process they have to go through to apply for asylum. It was also to volunteer to prepare food for the people in the encampment in Matamoros, Mexico, and to show support for the ongoing vigil on the US side of the border, protesting the policies of the Trump administration.
The plan was to be there for a week, but this was just when things were starting to change because of covid 19, so this delegation was the last group that was able to volunteer to be there before everything shut down, and they also ended up leaving early.
Peggy will speak about her experience and show her slides this Sunday evening from 6:30-7:15. Please come and find out more about what’s happening on the border and what we can do to support the people there.
